Class, thank you for visiting this page. To help you continue your education during this crazy period of history we're living in, I will be updating this page periodically as I find resources to share with you. Please don't forget to share your scores/progress as you complete each assignment, or save it for when we eventually return to class. And finally, please try to get at least 30 minutes of ImagineLearning Math and Imagine Learning Language and Literacy each day (no, IL Math Facts doesn't count, sorry)

1. After watching the video, click on the Support Materials tab under it, and open the Discussion Questions. Either pick two to write answers to, or pick one to draw a comic strip about.
2. (SCIENCE 5.9B) - Don't eat your lunch while watching these DECOMPOSERS! https://klrn.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/tdc02.sci.life.oate.decompose/decomposers/#.XnTnC2hKg2w. Make sure to read the Background Reading under the video, then write a paragraph about the life of one of the decomposers. Write it from a first-person point of view. Ex: (Dear diary, today I found a big pile of cow droppings and I consumed it! Yuck! Now, though, the soil is ready for growing more grass)
3. (SCIENCE 5.8C) - http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/solar-system/day-on-earth.htm. What would a day be like on Venus? How would it compare to Earth's day? Watch the video to find out more, then use what you learned to answer these questions by writing a paragraph.
4. (SCIENCE 5.6D) - How big is Earth's gravitational field? How do slinkies work? These questions and more are answered in this video about FORCE: https://www.pbs.org/video/science-trek-force-and-motion/. As you watch, write down 7 facts you learned from the video. Use full sentences. Add one question you'd like to have answered.
5. (SCIENCE 5.5A) - How well do you know your PHYSICAL PROPERTIES? Watch http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/matter/properties-of-matter.htm and then define matter, mass, volume, and density by writing the definitions and drawing a picture to go with each of them.

2. (SCIENCE 5.6C) - See if you can harness the power of LASERS: https://m.plonga.com/teaser/Laser-Mirrors-Game. Diagram 2 of the puzzles you solved. What do you notice about the angles that the lasers reflect at? Tell me the highest level you get to!
3. (SCIENCE 5.9B) - This one's about DECOMPOSERS: https://pbskids.org/plumlanding/games/break_it_down/. How do fungi "eat" to get nutrients? Why are decomposing logs good shelters for termites?
4. (SCIENCE 5.9B) - Antarctic FOOD WEB: https://klrn.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/lsps07.sci.life.eco.oceanfoodweb/antarctic-food-web-game/. Read the "Food Chains/Webs" and "Trophic Table" sections before starting the food web game. When you finish, diagram the completed food web (you don't need to draw the pictures), and send me a picture!
5. (SCIENCE 5.9C) - INVASIVE SPECIES alert! https://pbskids.org/plumlanding/games/invaders/index.html. You're gonna need a good memory, and be quick! For one of the levels, try letting the game run on its own to see what happens if you lose. Write down what happens to the populations of the native species and invasive species. Which ones increase and which ones decrease?

2. (SILENT READING RESOURCE) Fun news articles and more! https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome/grades-3-5.html. You can also turn it into an assignment by choosing one activity from the Daily Reading Quests link on the webpage.
3. (SILENT READING) - If you look in your JISD portal, you'll see something called "SORA BY OVERDRIVE," which is basically a DIGITAL LIBRARY. Have fun exploring!

1. (SCIENCE 5.6D) - How do PENDULUMS work? https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/pendulum-lab/latest/pendulum-lab_en.html. Set the pendulum for -20 degrees, then let it go. Watch it for a minute, then answer these questions: Why do you think the pendulum goes on forever? What force could we add to it to slow it down? What happens if you take away all the gravity? Why does this happen? Try changing one variable, like the mass or the length of the string. What occurred?
2. (SCIENCE 5.6B) - Build CIRCUITS! https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/circuit-construction-kit-dc. Your mission is to build 2 circuits. One that has 3 light bulbs and 2 switches, but when you open one switch, all three light bulbs turn off. The other circuit must have 2 light bulbs and 2 switches, but when you turn off one switch, the other bulb stays lit. Either take a screenshot or photo of your work and send it to me, or draw it and save it to turn in once Elolf opens up.
1. (MATH5.4H) - Use AREA to find the biggest PERIMETER. Go to https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/area-builder and click on "Explore." Then, build a rectangle with an area of 16. Record its perimeter, then build it again but with different length and height. Record its perimeter again. What rectangle with an area of 16 can you make that has the biggest perimeter? Draw it and share. What non-rectangle can you make using only 16 squares that has the biggest perimeter? Draw it and share. Good luck!
2. (MATH 5.3H) - FRACTION MATCHER: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/fraction-matcher/latest/fraction-matcher_en.html. Start with Level 1, either "Fractions" or "Mixed Numbers," and match them up! See if you can get past level 4. Record two answers from each level as you go.
3. (MATH 5.3H) - MIXED NUMBERS: https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/fractions-mixed-numbers. Play in "Intro" mode for a bit to get the hang of it, then start the "Game" mode. Try to get up to level 5 for both the pictures and the numbers. When finished, draw and write a mixed number that you had to create, and explain what a mixed number is, in your own words.
4. (MATH) - MULTIPLICATION FACTS: https://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/arithmetic. Do either the "Multiplication," "Factors," or "Division" section. You must pick Level 3. Complete the section and take a picture of your chart, or copy them onto paper.

TAG EXTENSIONS: (Not limited to only TAG students, these activities can replace one of the ones above, or just be completed as an extra assignment for fun)

2. - Watch this video about PLANT ADAPTATIONS: http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/plants/plant-adaptations.htm. Create a super hero/villain that has a plants adaptation as its super power. It does not have to be limited to plants in this video. Ex: A supervillain called The Rose who has thorns all over her skin. No one can apprehend her as she commits her crimes!
3. - FARMING, INFRASTRUCTURE, ENERGY RESOURCES, and ENGINEERING: https://pbskids.org/designsquad/games/ This is a big project. Design a report that includes all four fidgit games. In each section, detail what you accomplished with each gaming simulation. Then, conclude with what you learned about city design overall. The project can take multiple formats (your choice). You might make an online report, handwritten, or a posterboard with pictures.
4. - VISUAL BRAINTEASERS: https://www.teachstarter.com/us/blog/10-visual-brainteasers-kids-will-love/. Try these brainteasers! Check your answers at the bottom of the webpage. Now, use your metacognitive skills to analyze why you missed the ones you missed. What was it about your thought processes that led you astray? What would have helped you solve it? Answer these questions in writing. Or maybe, you got them all correct? If so, create your own two brainteasers!
