Additional Days School Year
-
What is ADSY?
ADSY stands for Additional Days School Year. The Texas Legislature created and passed ADSY as part of House Bill 3 in 2019.
-
Why add school days to the school year?
The ultimate goal is to decrease the learning loss from long breaks, such as a traditional summer. Research has shown that children can lose up to 40% of what they gained from a long summer.
-
What are the benefits of ADSY?
- Provides a longer amount of time for students to master content.
- Provides students time for brain breaks throughout the day.
- Provides students with enrichment opportunities such as coding, music, PE every day, and science experimentation.
- Provides students with additional targeted interventions and differentiated small group instruction.
- Provides students with increased access to healthy meals throughout the year.
- Provides students with a full time librarian and gifted and talented teacher.
- Provides parents a break in summer child care costs.
- Provides teachers with additional time to collaborate and plan high quality lessons
-
Will all Judson ISD schools be year round? (updated 5/1/21)
No. At this time, Converse Elementary is the only campus piloting a year round school program.
-
Will my child have to change campuses?
- If Converse Elementary is your home campus and you choose not to participate in ADSY, your child will have to change campuses.
- If Converse Elementary is NOT your home campus and you wish to participate in ADSY, you will be able to change campuses.
-
If we choose not to participate in ADSY, what school will my child attend?
All Converse Elementary students that do not wish to participate in ADSY will attend Escondido Elementary School if they require transportation. If you do not need transportation, you can choose any JISD school and provide your own transportation. All Judson ISD elementary schools offer Adventure Club.
-
What if we try ADSY and do not like it?
We recommend that once a student starts ADSY they stay with the program. Students exiting the program will need to enroll at Escondido Elementary or their home campus.
-
Will students that attend Converse Elementary have less summer vacation days?
Yes. For the 2022-2023 school year students will receive 200 days of instruction which decreases summer vacation.
-
How long will Converse Elementary be participating in ADSY?
Converse Elementary is piloting the ADSY initiative for 3 years (2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24).

Instruction at Converse Elementary

Will virtual instruction be available at Converse Elementary?
At this time, we are planning to provide face-to-face instruction. We will await a decision from the state of Texas about the funding of virtual instruction. Once that is determined, our district will be able to provide us additional information to share.
-
If students will be attending PE everyday, will new equipment be provided? (updated 5/1/21)
At this time, new PE equipment is not needed. Each year, we determine what new materials are needed for all departments. If there is a need to provide additional equipment, this will be provided.
