Copperfield Elementary is complete and was in full use by the first day of school. There was a lot of last-minute waxing, furniture moving, teacher moving, and general preparation for kids to show up on August 25. Punch list items are coming to a close. The full Certificate of Occupancy was issued by the City of Converse on October 21, 2014.
All of the structural steel should be complete by the end of January. Sections A&B are "dried in." All building concrete should be poured by January 16.
Questions have arisen about the exterior sports fields. Due to rising construction costs, we bid the high school project with alternate bids for the football stadium (for sub-varsity events; includes all-weather track), baseball/softball complex, tennis courts, and a football practice field. A full-size soccer competition field to double as a band marching field was included with the base project. Also, the area for the sub-varsity football stadium will be irrigated and sodded for use as a football and soccer practice area. The aforementioned alternates were bid as follows:
-
Sub-varsity competition football stadium with all-weather track - $2,000,000
-
Baseball/Softball complex - $3,900,000
-
Four tennis courts - $750,000
-
Additional football practice field - $775,000
