Ms. Casandra Mercado Ortiz

To tell you a little bit about myself, I’d have to start by saying that, even though I’ve made the greater San Antonio area my home, my roots are in Puerto Rico. I moved here during the summer of 2014 to create a better life for my family.

Living in Puerto Rico, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education, Cum Laude,  at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus, class of 2009. I began my teaching career on the island, acquiring 4 years of experience there. Moving to Texas, I taught for a year at CE King High School, Sheldon ISD, Houston, before moving to San Antonio. Judson ISD gave me a new home for teaching, first at Wagner High School, and now at Veterans Memorial High School. Throughout my years of teaching, I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus (Regular and Honors), and AP® Calculus AB. Teaching all these different courses has made me grow immensely as a teacher.

It is my honor to be part of the JISD family and I look forward to working with all my students and their families. Have a wonderful year!
